Written by Rene Nadeau Wednesday, 01 July 2009 20:21 Storm Johnson, a 3-star rated running back out of Logan, Georgia, has unofficially committed to LSU. The 29th rated RB nationally, Johnson will make his pledge official when he visits Tigertown on July 11th.
The 6-foot, 210 pounder with 4.54 speed rushed for 1,300 yards and 21 scores in 2008 while splitting time in the backfield. Look for those numbers to expand with his role as the full-time starter in 2009.
Johnson has a 32.9" vertical proving to be a quality athlete with good basketball skills.
Michigan State, Oklahoma and Ohio State were his other finalists. Penn State, Tennessee, Florida State, UCLA, and Kentucky were jockeying in the sweepstakes for Johnson.
Storm is thickly built with powerful legs. He drags defenders for additional yards and breaks tackles. He cuts at full speed, uses a good stiff arm and will get to the 2nd level quickly.
Other measureables for Johnson: 380 bench press and 510 squat.
He currently wears jersey number 5, which could be available when he arrives since running back Keiland Williams wears that number and will graduate following this fall.
Johnson is the 1st RB for the current class, but I expect the Tigers to land 3 backs in the year's group.
One thing that may have expedited the offer to Johnson is the uncertainty involved with top backs LSU is recruiting such as Lache Seastrunk, Michael Dyer, Malcolm Jones and Austin White, all rated above Johnson.

One that got away from Coach Les Miles is linebacker Kevin Nelson (6' 0-210, 4.6 in the 40). The Gainesville, Florida product committed to Miami over LSU, his other finalist.
Arkansas, Florida, Ole Miss, Central Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina and Louisville were also in the mix for the 19th rated 'backer.
Nelson has a good nose for the ball as evidenced by his 125 tackles last season. His motor runs hot. He doesn't get caught up with the blockers and is both fast and physical. He bench presses 355 pounds, squats an astounding 700 lbs. and has a 30" vertical. He runs a 10.95 hundred meters and would like to run track in college for the 'Canes.
