LSU football fans may want to plan an afternoon nap on Saturday, Sept. 5, prior to the Tigers' season opener at Washington. The Pacific-10 Conference announced this weekend LSU-Washington has been selected by ESPN, with kickoff scheduled for 9:30 p.m. CDT.
No official word, but it appears to be the latest kickoff time in LSU history (the 2003 game at Arizona was scheduled for a 9 p.m. kickoff).
Ironically, LSU opened last year against Appalachian State with a 10 a.m. kickoff, moved up nine hours because of Hurricane Gustav.
It's the first TV announcement involving an LSU game this year. Most of the early SEC selections by CBS and ESPN are announced at the conference's spring meetings at the end of this month.
The league's television coverage will have a new look this year, as the 2009 season marks the first year of 15-year contracts with CBS and ESPN. The new ESPN deal, besides assuring that all conference football matchups will be televised, includes the late morning/early afternoon package that is syndicated across stations in the southeast.
