The NFL will conduct a Supplemental Draft on July 16. Applications for
this draft have to be submitted by July 6. So far three players are
entering this silent draft to be done by e-mail:
- Joe McMahon (6-3 290), OT - Central Michigan
McMahon is a former two-time Golden Gloves boxing champion. He transferred to Central Michigan from Joliet Junior College before playing both center and right guard at Central Michigan where starting the last 8 games of the 2008 season at center. Academic problems forced him to leave school early.
- Corey Surrency (6-5, 220), WR - Florida State
Surrency transferred from El Camino College and ended up in a semi-pro league after turning 21. His eligibility expired following last season. A big receiver with a long stride, but he has character issues. I doubt he will be drafted.
- Jeremy Jarmon (6-3, 278) DE - Kentucky
The best prospect in this draft, Jarmon has fine speed running in the 4.7 range. He is a proven pass rusher with 17½ career sacks in 34 starts. He is a prospect who is not a character risk even though he was suspended for 1 year for testing positive for a banned substance said to have come from an over-the-counter dietary supplement he didn’t know was illegal (sound familiar Saints fans?). He has already graduated from college.
Jarmon will have a pro day in Lexington on July 9. If he performs well, expect several teams to pledge a reasonably high draft pick to secure Jarmon's services.
