KENNER, LA — The New Orleans Blaze announced the resignation of Head Coach William Jelks following the conclusion of the 2008 season.
Jelks had been with the team as its head coach since the Blaze’s first season in 2002. The reason for Jelks resignation was undisclosed except to say that it was for personal reasons.
The Blaze record under Jelks was a combined 27 wins and 21 losses over six years. Yet, the team could not improve beyond the 5-3 mark that it has posted each year since the 2003 season.
New Orleans finished this past season at 5 wins and 3 losses after an up-and-down campaign. The Blaze finished in second place in the Southeast Division of the Southern Conference of the NWFA and missed the playoffs for the first time playing a full season schedule since 2004 (NOTE: New Orleans did not field a team in 2006).
The team announced that it will begin looking for a replacement immediately for the 2009 season. Anyone interested in the position should contact team owner Lisa Lunsford at 504-431-7491.
