WRIGHT, COLLISON, THORNTON AND MARTIN ON SQUAD
The excitement
and nervousness awaiting every NBA Draft prospect's future in the NBA
is over, however, their journey has just begun. Their next stop, Las
Vegas.
New Orleans Hornets 2009 draft picks Darren Collison and Marcus Thorton will get their opportunity to showcase their offensive and defensive skills under NBA type conditions for the first time in the 2009 NBA Summer League in Vegas this upcoming month.
Beginning July 10, the Hornets and 20 other NBA teams will assemble teams with their recent draft picks along with other free agent hopefuls competing for the last few remaining spots on an NBA roster. The Summer League is scheduled to take place from July 10-19 featuring 55 total games at the Thomas & Mack Center and the Cox Pavillion on the University of Las Vegas campus.
Every team hasn't officially confirmed their rosters but the Hornets, coached by team scout Rob Werdann, will pair Collison and Thornton with current Hornet forward Julian Wright.
Other notable NBA superstars from around the league who have participated in previous years include Hornets guard Chris Paul, Memphis guard O.J. Mayo, Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant, Portland guard Brandon Roy, and Orlando point guard Jameer Nelson.
The Hornets are scheduled to begin tipoff July 12th against Southwest division opponent San Antonio Spurs for 1 p.m.
