LPO - Itzhak Perlman In Concert Mahalia Jackson Theatre | 7PM | Jan. 10th
Brooke Fraser The Parish 8.10.08 Brooke is a breath of fresh air. She is not your typical songstress. Her vocals and performance were nothing short of greats like Sarah McLaughlin, Fiona Apple, and Jonatha Brooke. She is witty and at times goofy and playful but put a guitar in her hand or sit her at a piano and she is the epitome of "original". Brooke's haunting vocals left us begging for more.
Her obvious relentless passion to see people experience music in a significant way was known from the very first note of the night. She is definitely the real deal, flawless in every way.
Her latest albums namesake, "Albertine", is a touching story of a young girl saved by a man that Brooke met on a trip to Rawanda in 2005. She met Albertine and is passionate about spreading the word of the hurting that still exists in that area of the world.
The highlight songs of the night, though they were all amazing, were "Faithful", "Deciphering Me", and a cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "Sound of Silence.
