A new iPhone application promises to clear up acne while you're talking on the phone.
17 year-old Jodi Scaffidi likes her skin, but wishes it was better. "I do get the breakout and I don't like that too much," she says.
That's why she's intrigued in trying a new iPhone application that promises to clear skin with light therapy. "I feel a little heat coming from the cell phone."
Acneapp is a new application where you hold the iPhone to your skin and light therapy is supposed to zap away blemishes. But Doctor Kelly Birkenstock says you may want to save the $1.99 it takes to download. "I've looked for studies and I haven't found any scientific data based on this."
The iPhone application actually mimics what light therapy machines do. Doctor Burkenstock says light therapy does clear acne and reverse signs of aging. She says the iPhone application just isn't strong enough to work. Plus, she's concerned about potential damage. "You would have to cover the eyes with shields and I'm not seeing that being recommended," she says.
Jodi hopes the iPhone application worked -- but Doctor Burkenstock says the technology may be better in the future.
Acneapp cautions the app is for entertainment purposes only and is not intended for treatment of any disease or medical condition.
