Today, the Archdiocese is requesting prayers for both retired Archbishops Philip Hannan and Francis Shulte.
A memo sent out today says Archbishop Hannan was hospitalized twice in the past week, once for low blood pressure and a second time for a series of mini-strokes. However, Archbishop Hannan is resting comfortably at his home, eating well, and walking on his own. At this time, it is requested that he not have visitors. Archbishop Schulte suffered two falls and is resting in an assisted living facility in Philadelphia.
Yesterday, Archbishop Hannan was scheduled to appear at this Saints Day service at Lakelawn Cemetary, but wound up cancelling. Archbishop Gregory Aymond explained it was because of the mini strokes. Two-years ago, former Archbishop Hannan suffered a more serious stroke. But he recovered within a couple of months. Hannan was appointed Archbishop of New Orleans in 1965. He retired in 1988.
Shulte was appointed 1988. He retired 2002.
