According to officials, at about 2:17p.m. Big T Tire Store caught on fire. Fire district 1 out of Slidell is the lead in this incident. Pearl River Fire Department are also helping out. No injuries were reported and no homes were threatened.

United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., celebrated the commissioning of the USS New York that took place today in New York City. The ship was built at Avondale Shipyard, near New Orleans, and includes 7.5 tons of World Trade Center steel in her bow.

NEW ORLEANS | A federal grand jury on Friday indicted the city's former technology director, his wife and a one-time city vendor on fraud and bribery conspiracy charges.

The indictments are against Greg Meffert, city technology director from 2002 to 2006; his wife, Linda Meffert; and businessman Mark St. Pierre.
