Description

Bourbon Street isn't the only place you'll find wildlife in New Orleans! Spend a day wandering around Audubon Zoo, a sprawling 58-acre habitat for more than 2,000 animals, including rare white alligators, white tigers, gorillas, monkeys, and endangered whooping cranes.

The layout of the Zoo is designed to guide visitors through a self-guided walking tour of animals from around the world, but by far the most popular attraction is the award-winning Louisiana Swamp Exhibit. With its languid lagoons and abundant cypress trees, the Swamp Exhibit is a true urban swamp, immersing visitors in Louisiana culture and terrain.

Inside the African Savannah, grazing rhinos and giraffes are the stars. At the South American Pampas, you'll see emus, tapirs, and the largest rodents in the world, the capybaras. Jaguar Jungle, built to resemble a misty Mayan rainforest, is where you'll find the mysterious and sacred jaguars.

The Asian Domain is home to some of the Zoo's most famous stars, Asian elephants, Panya and Jean. These two larger-than-life ladies are the "showgirls" of the Zoo. King Rex and King Zulu, rare white tigers, draw a huge crowd along with the critically endangered Amur leopards.

Long hot day in New Orleans? Cool the kids off at the seasonal Cool Zoo, a wet-n-wild water park on Zoo grounds. An additional, nominal entry fee gets your kiddos into the water park and all of its fun features, including jumping water spouts, a gator waterslide, squirting, spraying park features, and three different splash zones to suit different age groups (one is dedicated for toddlers only).

Educational chats and feedings, shopping and concessions are available through the Zoo. Take time to include a ride on the Endangered Species Carousel and Swamp Train. Journey back in time at the Dinosaur Adventure with eleven life size roaring, moving dinosaurs in natural settings.

Audubon Zoo sits inside the sprawling fields of oaks and lagoons in Audubon Park, and if you're planning a trip to the Zoo, you'll want to set aside an entire day to explore it all.
