Expect to catch an array of girlie throws at this parade, named for the nine daughters of Zeus in Greek mythology. The krewe tosses plastic throws including mirrors, purses and combs, but the most coveted of all Muse throws are the handmade, bedazzled items, particularly the high heel shoes members hand out to a select few along the parade route. In New Orleans, several streets bear Muses' names (Calliope, Clip, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomene, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, Thalia, Urania), and the krewe celebrates one of the nine Muses by honoring a woman who embodies the spirit of the Muse selected for the season. The club was founded in 2000 and is made up of a group of women who describe themselves as "diverse in every way - ethnically, racially and socioeconomically." The club supports outreach programs that involve children and the arts community.
