Krewe of Endymion
Endymion, the biggest of the three Mardi Gras “super krewes,” selects a celebrity grand marshall to lead the parade.
Read MoreDescription
With more than 2,400 riders in this bonafide "super krewe," Endymion is one full-blown parade production, complete with a celebrity grand marshall, 31 super floats, 25+ marching bands, and a post-parade blow-out party held in the Superdome. The krewe's motto, "Throw Until it Hurts," only hints at the legendary volume of throws – millions of strands of beads, cups, doubloons and trinkets – tossed during the parade.
Named for the Olympian god of fertility and eternal youth – also the most good-looking of all the gods – Endymion is the largest krewe in Mardi Gras history. The club was founded in 1967 as a small neighborhood venture in the Bayou St. John-Gentilly area, but by 1974, Endymion had grown into a super club. Every year, the Krewe of Endymion selects a celebrity grand marshal and the krewe throws the biggest after-parade party in New Orleans at the Superdome called the Endymion Extravaganza. Members and invited guests are feted with an all-star lineup of music and entertainment, and the party kicks off when the floats of the Endymion parade roll into the Superdome. Past grand marshals include Anderson Cooper, Kid Rock, Dolly Parton, Chicago, and the Beach Boys.
