Back in 1913, the Queen & Crescent Hotel Building, headquarters of the newly formed Queen & Crescent rail line from Cincinnati (known as the Queen City) to New Orleans (the Crescent City) loomed high as New Orleans' tallest building, offering a commanding view of downtown and the French Quarter just two blocks away.
Today, after a $12 million renovation, this historic landmark is home to the Queen & Crescent Hotel, offering its patrons a taste of the city's past and a location that serves as the perfect springboard to all there is to see and do in New Orleans. Guests can walk to the French Quarter, including Bourbon Street; the many attractions of Canal Street, which range from the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas to Harrah's Casino; the Arts/Warehouse District with its many galleries and museums, including the National World War II Museum; and other places such as the Convention Center and the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. And if you want to see even more of the city, hop on the nearby streetcar line and see what further adventures await.
The Queen & Crescent's 196 rooms boast original artwork and European-style furnishings, with many of the rooms featuring exposed brick for an even more lovely, traditional feel. On the modern front, each of the rooms comes with high-speed internet access, in-room fax and modem capabilities, coffee makers and in-room safes. Other amenities include a light, complimentary breakfast, refreshments in the Club Car Lounge, available valet parking and a 24-hour fitness center.
Since the Queen & Crescent is located in downtown New Orleans, also known as the Central Business District, many of its guests come to work. To that end, the Queen & Crescent offers full-service meeting and banquet facilities and rooms that accommodate from 10 to 150 people, with a maximum capacity of 1,300.
And when it comes to dining, a quick look at list of New Orleans' most famous eateries will show that many of them are within a few blocks of the Queen & Crescent's doors. Emeril Lagasse's restaurant, Emeril's is close by, as are several of John Besh's restaurants, including Restaurant August, and Luke's, Donald Link's Cochon, Galatoire's, Antoine's and many Brennan family restaurants. There are many casual places to eat in the area too, ranging from piping hot beignets at Cafe Du Monde to succulent po-boys at Mother's. "Follow your nose" can be very good advice when you're in New Orleans.
