Paul McCartney not only stayed at the Le Richelieu in the French Quarter, he made this hotel his home several years ago while cutting an album in New Orleans. He did so because this locally owned, historic hotel has an elegant, yet homey feel and boasts a staff that has been with Le Richelieu for years and believes in taking care of its guests.
Le Richelieu, which was built in 1845, but consistently renovated since then, sits on the quiet side of the French Quarter and features a French Quarter rarity: on-premise self-parking, which is a very popular with guests, as are its very reasonable prices. Inside, Le Richelieu is lushly traditional, with each of the hotel's 86 rooms, including 17 suites, being individually decorated with traditional furnishings, artwork and brass ceiling fans. Due deference is paid to modern-day needs too, with all rooms featuring free wireless internet access, voice mail, dataports, refrigerators and more.
There's a lovely outdoor saltwater swimming pool in a lush courtyard, and the hotel also offers two other great places to relax and unwind: the Terrace Cafe where breakfast is served all day, along with light items such as soups and sandwiches, and the Terrace Lounge, a great place to relax with a beverage and even enjoy the company of some of the locals.
A concierge, a staff whose slogan is "We're ALL concierges!" and a 24-hour front desk help ensure that guests' needs are met. They're known for always being ready to help arrange tours or point guests in the right direction for a fabulous meal or nearby attraction. And there are plenty of attractions nearby, ranging from the French Quarter's famous St. Louis Cathedral and Jackson Square, as well as Bourbon Street, to perhaps lesser known, but just as interesting attractions, such as Frenchmen Street in the neighboring Marigny neighborhood, another great street for music and fun. And as New Orleans is such a compact city, places like downtown New Orleans, the Convention Center, Harrah's Casino, the Arts/Warehouse District and the Mercedes-Benz Superdome are very accessible too.
