Years before air conditioning people would wear linen to reflect the sunlight and beat the heat. The tradition is revisited every summer with White Linen Night, a New Orleans style block party in the Warehouse Arts District. Enjoy a night out mingling with locals and visitors alike while visiting participating galleries with artworks on display and for sale. There will also be samplings of New Orleans' world-famous cuisine from local restaurants and cool drinks to sip on as you gallery hop. The outdoor celebration includes stages and live entertainment provided by some of New Orleans' most eclectic and talented musicians.

The festival is held on the first Saturday of August from 6-9 p.m. and it's completely free. It goes along the 300-800 blocks of Julia St. It's a fundraiser for the Contemporary Arts Center and is sponsored by the New Orleans Arts District Association and Whitney National Bank. The after party is always held at the nearby Contemporary Arts Center with live music and an art show of its own.

The easiest way to keep up with all the events happening in the Big Easy is to regularly check the NewOrleans.com calendar.
