More than 20,000 top distance runners from around the world hit the streets of the Crescent City every year for the annual New Orleans Rock 'n' Roll Marathon. So, what makes it a rock 'n' roll run? Live bands perform music along every mile of the race course.

The course for the 26-mile marathon and 13-mile half-marathon covers New Orleans from the Mississippi River to Lake Pontchartrain, traveling by some of New Orleans' scenic sites and landmarks, including St. Charles Avenue, Audubon Park, the French Quarter and City Park.

The New Orleans Rock 'n' Roll Marathon is a certified course and qualifier for the Boston Marathon. You must be at least 18 years old to participate in the marathon and 12 years old to participate in the half marathon.

 2012 New Orleans Rock 'n' Roll Marathon

The course for the New Orleans Rock 'n' Roll Marathon has changed. The new start line is at the intersection of Poydras Street and Camp Street. The full and half-marathon will run together for over 12 miles. The marathon courses traverse historic St. Charles Avenue, the French Quarter and City Park. In 2012, marathon runners will cover more mileage along Lakeshore Drive and enjoy views of Lake Pontchartrain in the final miles. Runners finish at Roosevelt Mall behind the New Orleans Museum of Art, where a finish line festival and post-race concert cap off the race-day celebration.

Local legends Rockin' Dopsie Jr. & The Zydeco Twisters will headline the 3^rd annual New Orleans Rock 'n' Roll Marathon.
