With two stages jam-packed with musical performances and more than a dozen food vendors, the Crescent City Blues and BBQ Festival would be a good value at nearly any price. The fact that it’s a free festival, made possible by the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation, makes coming to New Orleans for the weekend a no-brainer. Held at Lafayette Square in the Central Business District in New Orleans, the festival features a crafts fair, a sports bar, and panel interviews with many of the performers.
You won’t find second-rate carnival fare here. It's New Orleans, people. And as much as we love our po-boys and crawfish, this festival is all about the barbecue. Come hungry.
The festival's musical line-up includes local favorites and big names (including past performances by Tab Benoit, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Eric Lindell) but the event is also a showcase for up-and-coming Blues acts. Winners of the Blues Challenge, an annual event, perform at the festival, and go on to represent New Orleans at the World Blues Challenge in Memphis.
