Show Reviews
The guys at the Backbeat Foundation hosted an awesome show tonight featuring the Andrews Family Band at City Park's Botanical Gardens. This was indeed a unique performance by one of New Orleans legendary musical families.
Picture it…Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, James Andrews, Glen David Andrews and other family members all on stage doing their thing. It was a beautiful sight. Horns were blaring and drums were beating. The dance floor was on fire. People of all ages were dancing and getting their Andrews groove on. These guys were on fire and so were everyone’s feet. There was no one in the room that did not tap their feet and shake their head.

There was no better place to be on a Wednesday. The weather was amazing. The bands normally play outdoors but, because of the possibility of rain, they held the event inside. It was perfect. Get down to the garden and check out some live, local music. Have a margarita and something to eat and get ready to be entertained.
Earlier in the day I attended the BBQ & Brass Porch Party that Irvin Mayfield hosted with his organization, NOJO. Soul Rebels Brass Band and the N.O. Jazz Orchestra performed. Kermit Ruffins was on the grill cooking burgers, hot dogs, BBQ chicken, and more. It was all free and open to the public. What a treat to be walking down the street, getting a whiff of Kermit’s BBQ and coming upon the scene, having someone say “please have one, they’re free”. Free food...gotta love that!
The porch jam was great. Irvin’s little baby boy who is probably about 3 or 4 years old was on the porch blowing into his little horn while watching the big boys do their thing. It was awesome!
It was a great day to be out and the weather, although a little hot, was perfect in the evening. Keep it up New Orleans! You look good from where I’m standing.
