nomusicians.jpgOur musicians are such an integral, important part of our city and our culture, so New Orleans has an abundance of organizations set up specifically for their benefit. They offer health services, since working musicians are so often uninsured; they offer professional development, to help musicians gain recognition on a national and world-wide scale; since Hurricane Katrina, organizations like the Musicians Village have been offering musicians assistance in rebuilding their lives and careers.

Tipitina's Foundation

tips_foundation_logo150.jpgThe Tipitina's Foundation was established in 1997 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Its mission is to support Louisiana’s irreplaceable music community and preserve the state’s unique musical cultures. The Tipitina’s Foundation originates from the Tipitina’s music venue, a historical New Orleans cultural icon that continues to be instrumental in the development and promotion of Louisiana music around the world. The Foundation works to support childhood music education, the professional development of adult musicians, and the increased profile and viability of Louisiana music as a cultural, educational and economic resource. Rebuilding Musicians' Village

musiciansv.jpgMusicians’ Village, a cornerstone of the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity post-Katrina rebuilding effort, is designed to both construct a community and preserve a culture. Conceived by New Orleans natives Harry Connick, Jr. and Branford Marsalis, Musicians’ Village will provide a home for both the artists who have defined the city’s culture and the sounds that have shaped the musical vernacular of the world. The core idea behind Musicians’ Village is the establishment of a community for the city’s several generations of musicians and other families, many of whom had lived in inadequate housing prior to the catastrophe and remain displaced in its aftermath.
