Featured Live Music Club

cww.jpgLocated at 2828 Canal Street in the heart of Mid City, Chickie Wah-Wah is located in the building that before Katrina used to house a dive bar called the Canal St. Bus Stop. Back then, it was a funky down home joint that featured local brass bands usually once or twice a week.

Today, under new management by Dale Triguero (who first had success with another music club in Orleans parish called The Old Point Bar), the club is renamed, much cleaner and more like a living room than the dirty barroom that it used to be.

A few tidbits about the place: They have recently undertaken a major renovation that has also added an outdoor area of the club for their customers to enjoy. The PA system is brand new and crystal clear for the audience. The selection of beer and other alcoholic beverages is extensive. Cover charges are generally affordable even for their most premium shows.

The musicians that are performing at the club are some of the best in the city. For example, blues musician John Mooney plays solo every Sunday night. Ed Volker's side project away from The Radiators, called Jolly House, has been doing regular shows over there as well.

To give you an idea of the sense of humor that Dale has, check out this official release from the club: "We can't guarantee ANYTHING except great music and a good time - if you follow a few simple rules! Times are approximate, we might change our minds about the cover charge that was advertised before we figured out it's not enough to pay the bands, some advertising may not be current because of deadlines we couldn't meet, some shows will have food, some may not, some artists may figure out they double booked themselves and then we're screwed but we'll find someone else...maybe even better!"

Dale and Dixie have finaly put a juke joint feel with upscale appeal in New Orleans. The blues is hot and the beer is cold. The Voodoo Blues Krewe, New Orleans Blues Society gives it's stamp of approval to Chickie Wah Wah.
