Music Notes

NEW ORLEANS | What a beautiful day for a festival. The winds were blowing and the trees seem to smile as the sun came in and out. People were happy to be out doors and heading to one of the most awesome parties of the year. Voodoo Fest. It’s Halloween weekend in New Orleans and you better watch your souls.

As soon as I walked on the festival grounds I could feel the vibrations of the earth moving. The music was calling me and my waist could not stop swaying. I heard the sweet voice of an angel and a welcoming rhythm section. I didn’t know who or where the sound was coming from. I followed the sounds and it leads me to the WWOZ stage.

There she was! Standing in platforms and a beautiful silver mini-dress. Her skin was dark and glowing against the silver of the dress. Her strawberry colored Mohawk hair was on fire. Her sultry voice can take you to places you wish you’d gone to. Her name. Ledisi. The music was a blend of Jazz, Funk, Blues, R&B & Rock.

After listening and grooving to Ledisi I found myself at the Preservation Hall Tent listening to Lil Brian and the Zydeco Travelers. They were awesome. The Pres Tent is one of my favorite tents on the ground. At this point I cannot stop moving. You walk from one stage to the next and you have great music, art & food at every turn.

I decided to take a walk to see the other music going on around the grounds when I came upon a robot. Yes. A robot. It moved and communicated with those that came in contact with it. It was something out of sci-fi. Let me just say that you had to be there!!!

I walked over to see the Vettes at the Voodoo stage and they rocked. Apparently this band started in Harahan. The lead singer is a petite blonde with long legs. She wore a beautiful zebra-stripe one-piece short jumpsuit. Let me just say, I am totally knocking the look off for my next fashion show. The band almost sounded like a London underground band from back in the 80’s at some point. Loved them and cannot wait to purchase their CD.

There was such great music happening everywhere that I felt terrible leaving the Vettes to go check out Alejandro Escovedo at the WWOZ tent. They rocked the house and it was totally worth the sacrifice I made by leaving the Vettes!!! Everyone was moving and shaking on the moist soil. If we were on solid ground we would have really felt the rhythm of the music vibrating.

Walked back to Preservation Hall Tent and heard the Preservation Hall Stars do their thing. OMG!!! If you get a chance to hear the band play, please go. I always feel as if though my soul has been cleansed when I hear them play.

The rain was coming down so hard at this point, that we decided to leave the festival grounds. A girl cannot be sinking in mud at this point. Will let you know how the music is tomorrow. Should be a lovely day and it’s Halloween and I am dressing in costume. Watch out everyone!!! Ooh, I can’t wait to see that robot again. He was hot!
