The Mandeville High School Lady Skippers soccer team improved to 12-0 on the season by successfully defending their championship of the Pineville Rebel Cup in Pineville, Louisiana.
In bracket play, Mandeville topped St. Frederick (Monroe) 6-0 behind two goals each from Ann Coogan and Kaitlin Davis and one goal apiece from Whitney Murchison and Julia Hunter. The Lady Skippers followed up with a 7-0 defeat of Leesville behind two more goals from Kaitlin Davis, two from Julia Hunter, and one goal each from Whitney Murchison, Rachel Robinson, and Ann Coogan.
In the quarterfinals, Mandeville defeated Morgan City 8-0 to advance. Ann Coogan and Megan Kottemann scored twice each, and Julia Hunter, Whitney Murchison, Kaitlin Davis, and Rachel Robinson each added goals to send MHS through to the semifinals.
Mandeville topped Sulphur 3-0 in the semifinals to qualify for the championship match. Julia Hunter had two goals and Ann Coogan had one to lead the Lady Skippers.
In the championship match, Mandeville turned back a challenge from the New Iberia Lady Yellow Jackets to win the title 3-1 behind goals from Julia Hunter, Ann Coogan, and Whitney Murchison.
Katelyn Peters and Ashley Gussoni led the Mandeville defense, which was also anchored by Jennifer Boudreaux in goal.
