ALABAMA: Heisman Trophy candidate Mark Ingram ran for 149 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday, as third-ranked Alabama kept its perfect season going with a 31-3 romp over Mississippi State. Ingram, who played part of the contest with a bandage on a cut above his right eye, piled up his yardage on 19 carries, which included a 70-yard TD run. Greg McElroy was an efficient 13- of-18 for 192 yards and two scores for the Crimson Tide, who have already clinched the conference's West Division and remain in the thick of the national title hunt. Alabama holds a 73-18-3 lead over Mississippi State in the all-time series, which dates back to the 1896 season. The Tide have games at home against Chattanooga and at Auburn before facing Florida in the SEC Championship Game on December 5th.
ARKANSAS: Quarterback Ryan Mallet tied his own school record with five touchdown passes on Saturday, as he led the Razorbacks to a 56-20 romp over the Troy Trojans in a non-conference battle. Mallet completed 23-of-30 passes for 405 yards for Arkansas, while Ronnie Wingo Jr. totaled 126 yards (43 rushing and 83 receiving), scoring once on the ground and once through the air. The Razorbacks totaled 592 yards in the contest and converted all five of their red-zone chances. The opponent for Arkansas this coming weekend is Mississippi State.
AUBURN: The Tigers jumped out to an early 14-0 lead against Georgia on Saturday and appeared to be on their way to what would have been a quality SEC victory. Unfortunately, Auburn was clearly outplayed from that point on and lost the game by a 31-24 final. The Tigers were paced by Chris Todd, who completed 20-of-28 pass attempts for 238 yards and two touchdowns. Desmond Washington had a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the setback, but the Tigers suffered a pair of costly turnovers. The next scheduled game for Auburn is the annual Iron Bowl, a clash with mighty Alabama on Friday, November 27th.
FLORIDA: This past weekend, Tim Tebow finished with 199 passing yards and one touchdown while rushing for another as Florida remained undefeated with a 24-14 victory over South Carolina. Tebow completed 14-of-25 passes and rushed for 26 yards for the Gators, who notched their 20th consecutive victory. The standout signal-caller's score tied him with Kevin Faulk of LSU for the most combined touchdowns in conference history with 53. Riley Cooper finished with 112 yards and a TD on just three receptions and Emmanuel Moody rushed for a score for Florida, which posted its first perfect SEC slate since 1996, that coming under current South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier. The Gators will host Florida International and Florida State the next two Saturdays before clashing with Alabama in the SEC title game on December 5th
GEORGIA: Caleb King carried the ball 10 times for 66 yards and two scores to lead the Bulldogs to a 31-24 win over the Auburn Tigers in an SEC showdown at Sanford Stadium on Saturday. King's teammate, Washaun Ealey, finished with 18 rushing attempts for Georgia, totaling 98 yards and a touchdown, while Joe Cox completed 9-of-17 passes for 173 yards and a score. Georgia won the turnover battle in this contest, forcing the Tigers into two miscues. Give the Bulldogs plenty of credit for fighting their way out of an early 14-0 hole. They will now do battle with Kentucky this Saturday.
KENTUCKY: Derrick Locke ran for 144 yards and a touchdown and Randall Cobb added two more scores on the ground, as the Wildcats bested the Vanderbilt Commodores, 24-13, on Saturday. The win was the fourth for the Wildcats in their last five outings and made them bowl eligible. Cobb, who was questionable for the game because of an arm injury, gave the Wildcats a 7-0 lead on a 21-yard burst midway through the opening quarter. Locke, who has been dealing with a knee injury, scored on a 14-yard run with five minutes left in the game. Kentucky ran for 308 yards on the day, while Vanderbilt went for just 82 yards on the ground. Up next for the 'Cats is an SEC clash with Georgia this Saturday.
LSU: The Tigers were far from dominant in a 24-16 home win over non-conference foe Louisiana Tech this past weekend. Keiland Williams ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries to lead the way, and Jarrett Lee completed only 7-of-22 pass attempts for 105 yards and a touchdown for LSU. Les Miles' team was coming off a defeat at the hands of unbeaten Alabama and didn't look motivated at times against Tech. The Tigers had outscored the Bulldogs 400-34 over the previous eight meetings. Brandon LaFell caught two passes for 54 yards and a score, and the Tigers won despite being outgained, 322-246. LSU will do battle with Ole Miss this Saturday in what figures to be a highly competitive tilt.
MISSISSIPPI STATE: No one expected the Bulldogs to be competitive against the undefeated Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, and the result of that tilt was a lopsided 31-3 defeat. Tyson Lee struggled under center for Mississippi State, completing 9-of-17 passes for 99 yards with two interceptions. He was also sacked twice, as the Bulldogs gained just 213 total yards. Anthony Dixon gained 81 yards on 22 carries for the Bulldogs, while also catching six passes for 59 yards. MSU has lost 10 straight games against teams ranked in the top five. The Bulldogs will attempt to knock off Arkansas this Saturday in SEC action.
OLE MISS: Dexter McCluster rushed for 282 yards and four touchdowns, as the Rebels handled the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday by a 42-17 final in SEC action. McCluster added four catches for 42 yards for Ole Miss, which defeated the Vols for the first time since 1983. Brandon Bolden contributed 46 yards and two scores on the ground for the Rebels, who amassed 359 rushing yards on the day. Ole Miss converted 7-of-13 third-down chances in the game, helping it keep possession of the ball for over 33 minutes. The Rebels would certainly help their postseason prospects if they can top LSU this coming weekend.
SOUTH CAROLINA: The Gamecocks put forth a solid effort against unbeaten Florida on Saturday, but the result of that home game was a 24-14 defeat. Stephen Garcia ended 17-of-32 for 186 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions for the Gamecocks, who have dropped three in a row and four of five. Brian Maddox rushed for 82 yards and a score on 17 carries, while Weslye Saunders added a touchdown reception and 62 yards on five catches for South Carolina, which completes its 2009 slate by hosting Clemson on November 28th. Garcia was sacked six times in the loss to Florida, and the Gamecocks finished with just 247 total yards.
TENNESSEE: The Vols were simply no match for Ole Miss this past weekend, as they fell on the road by a 42-17 final. Jonathan Crompton paced Tennessee in defeat, completing 20-of-37 pass attempts for 176 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Vols played the game shorthanded, as freshmen Nu'Keese Richardson, Janzen Jackson and Mike Edwards were all suspended for an attempted armed robbery in Knoxville during the week. Tennessee suffered its first loss to Ole Miss since 1983, and the main reason was a horrendous defensive showing that saw the squad yield 359 rushing yards to the Rebels. State and SEC rivals will collide this coming weekend when Tennessee takes on Vanderbilt.
VANDERBILT: The Commodores struggled offensively once again on Saturday in a 24-13 loss to Kentucky. John Cole caught five passes for 61 yards and a touchdown for the 'Dores, who generated just 209 yards in total offense while suffering theirs seventh straight loss. Vandy actually grabbed a lead when Mackenzi Adams found Cole with a 21-yard scoring pass late in the first half, but the 'Dores weren't able to get anything going over the final 30 minutes. Vanderbilt can shine a positive light on an otherwise miserable season if it can knock off Tennessee this weekend, but considering the fact that the squad rushed for only 82 yards against Kentucky, it is hard to have much faith.
