RUSTON—The Louisiana Tech volleyball team will return home after a two match road trip to face the Idaho Vandals (12-12, 8-3 WAC) on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Ct in the Thomas Assembly Center.
Tech (14-14, 4-8 WAC) is coming off tough road losses to Utah State and Boise State last week, but still remain in the hunt to qualify for the conference tournament as the top six teams qualify and Tech sits just a half game out of sixth place.
The Techsters have recorded an 8-5 record at home this season and will look to improve on that this week with two home matches vs. Idaho on Thursday and Boise State on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. CT. Tech is led in kills on the season by sophomore Nataliya Panova with 230. Leading the team in digs is junior Lori Hunsucker with 377 while Kara Jones leads the team in total blocks with 110, and leads the conference in solo blocks with 27.
Tech will be facing a Vandals team that leads the nation with 3.11 blocks per set. Last week Idaho fell in five sets to Gonzaga before defeating New Mexico State in four sets. Sarah Conwell had her WAC-leading 12th double-double of the season (12 kills, 10 digs) in the win over the Aggies, Idaho’s first since 2005.
Idaho won the previous meeting between the two teams this year 3-0. A Techster win Thursday night would set a new school record for WAC wins in a single season with five. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m. CT Thursday night. The match will be available to be seen online by logging onto www.latechsports.com and scrolling over the video camera at the top of the screen.
