Saints News
While we await word on the health and playing status of New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis and fullback Heath Evans, there is the strong possibility that both will miss Monday night's game with Atlanta. While Anthony Hargrove played very well in the absence of Ellis, the loss of the 2008 first-round draft pick will certainly hurt the Saints' depth up front.
At the fullback spot, there may be some evidence of Evans not being available Monday night. Scout.com's Adam Caplan is reporting that the Saints have brought in three fullbacks, including Zak Keasey, Darian Barnes and Kyle Eckel.
The 6-foot, 235 pound Keasey, who was on the Redskins' practice squad in 2005 and was with the San Francisco from 2006-2008, was released via an injury settlement by the 49ers on August 19th with a broken forearm which has healed.
The 6'2, 240 pound Barnes has spent seven seasons in the league with the Giants, Tampa Bay, Dallas, Miami, the Jets, Buffalo, Detroit and was with the Saints in 2008, playing in four games for New Orleans. Barnes was signed by the Saints on November 18, 2008 and was waived on December 21, 2008. He was re-signed to a future contract following the end of the season but was again released by the Saints on July 23, 2009. Barnes has played in 75 games in his career.
The 5'11. 237 pound Eckel is a four-year veteran. He was been with New England, Miami, and Philadelphia during his career. Most recently, he was signed by the Eagles on October 21, 2008 and was waived by the Eagles just before the start of this season on September 5.
