Sunday's Southern Decadence Parade: Absolutely fabulous!

If you were able to make it through the crowds, spanking, and glittered phalluses, Sunday afternoon's Southern Decadence Parade was a costume extravaganza.

Marching groups of lively gay and lesbian revelers impressed the onlookers not only with their humor, music, and sheer numbers but with some great costumes.  Drag Queens towered over the audience in high heels almost as tall as their hair dos and brought out the glam.

Other themed group costumes tickled the crowd with such concepts as "cash for chunkers", leather S&M, and sports teams.

See photos from the parade!

Everyone seemed to be enjoying the free spirit and celebration of the unique contribution this brave community makes not only to New Orleans culture, but throughout the world.

Well, almost everyone.

The Christian groups that seem to always make it to events such as this and Mardi Gras were out with picket signs which seemed to only inspire more outrageous behaviors and decadent costumes.  Southern Decadence, while a celebration designed for the Lesbian and Gay community to express themselves, was fun for all liberal adults to bear witness and perhaps bring a little more glamor into their own wardrobes.
