We tried a bottle tonight along with a roast of beef and it was marvelous.  I'm heading over to buy a case tomorrow.

It's unfortunate that this thread had to deviate from what was intended. It's just another communication from me about a wine that pleased me, and one that I knew would please others. I was "called out" twice on this board by the same person, in as many weeks. The first one was on me me, because of the subject matter. But this time he was on my turf. At least now when I recommend a wine that Todd carries, it will be known that it is because I believe in it, and not because Todd sells it. Amarone

Leave it to a Wines Unlimited guy to worry about terminology.

Amarone,

Do you intend to piss off everyone associated with the wine industry in this thread?

oh, it doesn't piss me off in the least.  in fact, i appreciate all the wine threads that he, you, start.
still need clarification though.    you should've seen him in the old days on the Parker board.  now,
that was when he was really pissing people off.   i'm a big fan, always have been.

It could be a different thread, but I think that the post that upset him the most was deleted.  Not to get into wine turfs or anything, but I never saw anything out of the ordinary or controversial in Amerone's original post to warrant the now deleted post.

my 2 cents.

I used the word "turf" for what it is I have been doing here for the last 5 years or so, i.e. talking about wines that interest me regardless of where I obtained them. Feel better? I got a least 1 friend left in the business. Happy Birthday Max Zander, who is 87 today.

Based on the recs, I bought two bottles of this last night. We drank both bottles before the fight even started. Then we switched to scotch.  Great wine at a great price.

I'm very glad that those of you that have tried it, have enjoyed the wine. I revisited it this weekend and I'm convinced that it is more than an everyday wine. It is pure pleasure in a bottle.

You should go into Martins today and ask for a commision.  You have probably been responsible for the sale of 25 bottles or so at least.

btw, did someone there recommend it to you or did you just take a guess?

My pal Steve Perret, (who has been steering me in the right direction for many years) told me about it. He also told me that they have been selling about 100 cases a month, prior to me posting.

Spec's, over in TX, advertises Block 823 as one of "Our 'Block' wines [which] are blends we put together with a couple of our friends in the wine business". I expect a proliferation of "block" wines in the near future-- one supplier is already expecting a "Block 337" Cab shortly. I suppose once the Aussies pick up on it, we'll have Block Head, Big Block, Block Buster, Mental Block, etc.
