About the Festival:
The 13th Annual Art in April Festival will be held on Friday, April 24th and Saturday, April 25th, 2009. A free outdoor concert on the grounds of the St. Bernard Courthouse, 1101 W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette will kick off the event. The concert will feature Leif Pedersen’s 1944 Big Band Orchestra and will begin at 7:00 P.M. until 9:30 P.M. On Saturday the festival begins at 11:00 a.m. and closes at 5:00 p.m. Visitors can enjoy live music, local food, a children’s pavilion, including, hands on arts and crafts, Aqua Van, storytelling, puppet and magic shows. There will also be arts and crafts, plant sale and educational exhibits. The fine art show will feature the works of artists from the metropolitan New Orleans area. St. Bernard Schools Children’s art show will be displayed in the lobby of the Courthouse. The winning artist this year from the St. Bernard Art Guild this year is Janet Attaway. Her winning art work represents this years theme “Building on History” an oil painting of Kenilworth Plantation that will be raffled.

Commemorative posters of the original will be for sale.

We invite you to come out and enjoy a celebration of spring and the arts in St. Bernard Parish.

Sponsors of the event are St. Bernard Parish Government, St. Bernard Parish Schools and the St. Bernard Art Guild made possible through a grant from the Decentralized Arts Fund administered by St. Tammany Parish.

Proceeds of the event support art scholarships in St. Bernard Parish.
