About the Festival:
The Black Heritage Festival (BHF) was established in 1987 to provide the general public with greater access to African-American culture through the presentation of cultural, performing arts and educational events.

In addition to the Festival, projects include the Black Heritage Gallery, Partners-in- Education, Scholarships for graduating seniors, the Black History Hall of Fame, and special performing arts and educational programs.

However, the Festival is the flagship event and has introduced countless number of performers to Southwest Louisiana. Held annually in March at the Lake Charles Civic Center, it is Lake Charles’ largest and most prestigious cultural celebration. Since its inception, thousands have gathered to celebrate this rich cultural heritage.

About the festival: Just when you think we're done celebrating and settling down for Lent, along comes this week in the middle of March, giving New Orleanians reason to parade one more time. With such a large population of both Irish and Italian descendants here in the city, St. Patrick's Day and St. Joseph's Day are pretty big deals in these here parts.

St. Patrick's Day finds its home - where else? - in the Irish Channel! Jump start your week of Irish by participating in St. Baldrick's Day on March 12. Head to Parasol's (corner of Constance and Third) in the Channel to shave your head for a cure to children's cancer.

About the Festival:
This Saturday a very important and fun event will take place; the Fortier Park Festival at 3128 Esplanade.   There will be live music and a silent auction with local photography, art and other great items.  The fun starts at 4 pm.

Why is it important?   Just take a look at Fortier Park. It didn't get that way because you pay lots of property taxes. It got that way because Bobby Wozniak and others have a deep love for beauty and you.   Yes, I said YOU.

Fortier Park is a labor of love and it is blossoming all over.

What can YOU do? You can donate your stuff for the silent auction or yourself as a volunteer.
