For their recital on Sunday, November 15 at 6:00 pm, at St. Mary’s Church, 1100 Chartres St., Paul Goussot, harpsichord, Joseph Meyer, Concert Master of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, and Jaren Philleo, first oboist of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the Double Concerto for Violin & Oboe in C-minor and the Violin & Harpsichord Sonata No 4 in C-minor of J. S. Bach. C. P. E. Bach will be represented on the program by the Oboe & Harpsichord Sonata in G-minor and the Trio sonata in D-moll. The concert will be free and open to the public.
While Johann Sebastian Bach (1684-1750) is generally considered to be the culmination of baroque music, his second son, Carl Philipp Emanuel (1714-1788) is often considered to be the founder of the classical style.
Paul Goussot, harpsichordist, studied at the Paris Conservatory where he won seven first prizes: harpsichord, continuo, organ, harmony, counterpoint, fugue, form and improvisation. Popular as a recitalist, he has performed at the Chapelle Royale de Versailles, the Festival Couperin de Champs sur Marne, the Théâtre du Renard, Notre Dame Cathedral and serves as accompanist and coach for various instrumental ensembles such as Les Arts Florissants. In 2009, upon the establishment of a joint program of the St. Louis Cathedral and the Paris Conservatory, he was named the Cathedral’s first Young Artist in Residence.
