Saints Blogger - NewOrleans.com Sports A native of New Orleans, The Exile has been in self-imposed northern exile since the mid-1980’s, chasing a series of professions not available in his beloved home town, such as lobster fisherman, food blander, figure skater and diction coach.
The Exile nevertheless remains loyal to his roots and a dedicated Saints season ticket holder, having inherited his family’s charter season tickets from 1967 and the scars that come with them. His distance from the intensity and passion of local New Orleans bar talk and sports radio, combined with his satellite dish, internet addiction and love of rewatching Saints games, gives him a unique objectivity and perspective to share with our NewOrleans.com readers.
Among his varied academic and professional interests, The Exile has been writing about sports for a variety of audiences since the 1970s, having served as the sports editor of his college newspaper as well as a daily newspaper with a circulation of 20,000, and most recently since 2000 as the author of a privately-circulated, internet-based report about the Saints. The Exile is also an occasional guest on sports radio shows, and certain of his exploits have been profiled in Joe Queenan’s True Believers: The Tragic Inner Lives of Sports Fans.
In addition to the NFL in general and the Saints in particular, The Exile also follows and comments on the NBA and his beloved Celtics, as well as sports culture issues of general interest. He remains an unrepentant bourbon drinker and currently resides in suburban Philadelphia with his longtime companion and their three children, all of whom except the longtime companion have been brainwashed into wearing Saints jerseys in the fall and Celtics jerseys in the spring..
