Who we are…

The New Orleans Opera Association (NOOA) is a professional opera company, producing four operas annually. We are the largest opera company in the Gulf South region, and ranked among the top 20 opera companies in the United States. We are one of the few companies in the country to maintain our own scenic studio---all our productions are created at the H. Lloyd Hawkins Scenic Studio in Metairie. The studio is an international resource, providing set rentals to other companies across the country.

The NOOA is dedicated to continually bringing new audiences to opera, through efforts in local schools and continuing opera education for adults. Our MetroPelican program brings a variety of opera programming to schools in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. We host free performances for students at each mainstage production, providing educational materials so that teachers and students can apply opera to other lessons in math, science, social studies, and language arts. The company also presents performances in non-traditional venues around the city, aiming to attract new audiences.

How you can help…

You may be surprised to know that revenues from ticket sales cover less than half the cost of each production. Opera is the most expensive art form to produce, and we rely upon a commitment from donors, patrons, and members of the business community to step forward and show their support, allowing the New Orleans opera to continue producing world class performances and award winning educational programs.

Opera not only provides artistic enrichment for our community, it serves to attract corporations and professionals to the area and enhances the region’s appeal to a well-qualified workforce. A professional opera company adds to the quality of life in our community.
