The Academy of the Sacred Heart is a Catholic, independent, college preparatory school for girls in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. Founded in 1887 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart, the school shares a tradition and a commitment to Christian education today with an international Network of schools in 44 countries. The school is governed by a Board of Trustees composed both lay and religious members. Little Hearts, a separate Early Learning Center for Toddler and Nursery girls is located on the Mater Campus.
Archbishop Chapelle High School was founded in 1962 by the Archdiocese of New Orleans and named after Archbishop Placide Louis Chapelle, the first Archbishop of New Orleans in the twentieth century.
The school was staffed by the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. There were 236 freshmen and nine teachers, including five religious and four lay teachers, that first year. Each year, an additional grade was added until the 1965-1966 school year, which heralded the first graduating class. Today, Chapelle is a Catholic college preparatory school of over one thousand young women in grades eight through twelve.
