Steven Segal: Mojo Priest House of Blues - July 10, 2008
Steven Segal, yes, the action hero of Hollywood fame, came to the House of Blues last week with an all star revue. He played guitar and sang. I had heard that he had a band, but this was the first time I had seen him do his thing. He had a backing band of Memphis studio musicians that were absolutely dead on and rock solid.
Aaron Neville and Bobby Rush were in the house and sang beautifully, with the energy and pitch perfect tone that they are famous for. Tab Benoit played guitar and was on point all night, and closed out the show with a burning guitar solo. Monk Boudreaux as always was on fire with his vocals. and of course his indian suit was as pretty as they come. The highlight of the night was a great rendition of Iko Iko, with Monk and Aaron trading vocals. Segal didn't impress me very much either way as a vocalist or a guitarist, but he sure does know how to surround himself with great musicians. A mojo priest, not exactly, but it was an entertaining night nonetheless.
