July 20, 2007…When Eddie Jordan was U.S. Attorney, he made headlines for prosecuting former Governor Edwin Edwards; however, during that same investigation, he refused to prosecute State Senator Cleo Fields (D-Baton Rouge), who was seen on video tape stuffing his
pocket with wads of cash, courtesy of Edwards. Critics wondered why Jordan did not prosecute Fields and questioned whether race played a role in that controversial decision.
For years, rumors have swirled around political circles about David Vitter frequenting an escort service, either in the New Orleans area or Washington D.C. The rumors were never officially verified and eventually disappeared as Vitter was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004. This week, they resurfaced with a vengeance as the Senator admitted to a “very serious sin in my past” and allegations were made that he frequented the Canal Street brothel and was involved with a prostitute named Wendy Cortez.
Founded in 1974, Save Our Cemeteries, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting, preserving, and protecting New Orleans' 31 historic cemeteries. Over the years, Save Our Cemeteries, Inc. has been responsible for the actual restoration of historic tombs that otherwise would have disintegrated beyond repair. Proceeds from tours led by representatives benefit the Save Our Cemeteries' tomb restoration programs, as well as educational projects, lectures, and workshops on cemetery preservation.
