If you missed Saturday, then you missed a lot! Not only did the Big Easy Rollergirls kick ass and take names, but they announced the winner of Name the Rollergirl Contest! Now you wish that you were there, don't you!
The action for us Rollergirls started at noon. I was scheduled for 1:30 and showed up promptly to start getting the track ready for the bout. I got there and was immediately asked to resize logos for the scoreboard. Afterward, I joined the girls and we finished laying down the sports track, hanging up banners and lights, and made sure everything was ready for the big game.
After set-up, we got to practice on the sports track. I loved practicing on our freshly placed floor. Slaughter was running practice, but since she was bouting that day, she didn't go balls to the walls as normal, although she pushed us to the limit!
Level two assessments are coming up at the end of October and beginning of November, so practice was going over everything that we would need in order to pass. I am now the proud owner of several new bruises from this practice and one is from my very own wheel.
I was starved after practice, so I grabbed a bite and shoved the greasy food down my throat to be ready for my "bout duties" that night. I was running the raffle for the first half of the bout. I must have done a great job the last bout to earn this chore again! Tchoup'er and I rocked it. I had my sales pitch down and only 10 people didn't buy from me. I even sold 20 tickets to one guy! I was on cloud nine and it was only the beginning of the night.
Half-time came quickly. I ran to my van, put on my skates, got my winner and then my wheel decided to come off. I am not sure exactly how I didn't fall, but my nut is bad and my skate decided it was done with me and fell apart in all kinds of ways. I rigged it for my announcement and photo-op, hoping that I wouldn't fall and kill myself. I got lucky this time!
Once the announcement was done, I sat down and evaluated the situation with my skate. Basically, the plastic piece that holds my truck straight and my nut both broke. I was told that I could buy new pieces for the skates to fix it and that it wouldn't cost too much. I have had nothing but problems with these skates, so I am trying to decide whether to replace the parts and make them outdoor skates and buy new ones or just fix the skate. Decisions, decisions...
The second half of t
he bout, I got to sit and watch. I love watching! Betty was the captain and on top of her game, along with the whole team. They looked like they were all in tip-top shape and having the time of their lives! The time flew by and the game was quickly over with no chance of a comeback for Southern Misfits... 192-48! Talk about a blow-out!
After we tore down the track and put everything back, we went out to celebrate at the King Pin. I was out too late, lost my voice, got rough with some of the girls and had so much fun! I love being a Rollergirl!

It was a pretty fun day!
Big shout out to all involved in the event!
