Flying colors and light scrimmaging what more could a girl want?

Rink Rash

PassedI got an email from Slaughter on Friday letting me know that I aced my level one assessment!  Passing basically means that on Saturday I can start doing some contact. This is what I have been waiting for. . . hitting, pushing and full contact. That also means falling, bruising and getting hit back, which is exciting to me. A bit crazy I am, yes.

As you can imagine, Saturday morning I got up extra early and headed out to the rink. I was the first one there. I have never been the FIRST one there before. In fact, I constantly try to avoid being the first one anywhere, so that shows you my level of excitement.

I headed inside and immediately started to change my wheels out. I still had my outdoor wheels on and if I wanted to get the full effects of practice, I needed my indoor wheels. It was hard at the beginning of practice. My left thigh was on fire! Then Slaughter was constantly blowing that whistle having us either fall, hop, squat, sprint, pop up into a shoulder check or touch a foot. I don't really remember being that sore during the warm-up part of practice, but I am sure that I have been.

After that we stretched a bit and informed that we would be doing some light scrimmaging with low impact hitting; in other words, no hitting, forming packs and trying to get used to skating that way. It was awesome! I got sent to the penalty box twice, once was a double major penalty. Vieux Careen, the shining example of what NOT to do. This is all about learning, so I have learned that I need to watch the track as well as the girls on it, to not cut it.

The firstMILF time I was sent to the penalty box, I was the jammer. I was pushed out of bounds, which I knew but thought it was only one foot. Well, apparently it was two steps, while jumping in front of two girls. Go me! The second time, I got knocked out of bounds on the inside of the court, cut the track, and crossed the wrong way through the track on my way to the penalty box. Double whammy! I know I rock.

We did this for the rest of practice, soon alternating from all newbies to a mix of newbies and vets. Speaking of vets, MILF Duds "canopened" me to let her jammer through.  I went sprawling across the floor and now have a nice bruise on my ass to show for it. . . which I loved! Once again, yes crazy, I have always known it and I revel in it.

Every week, when we learn something new, I think, "This is the best practice ever!" Well, here's hoping that thought continues to cross my mind each and every week and that we get to hit some more next week!
