Girl Scouting’s mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. The local council, Girl Scouts Louisiana East, with offices in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, provides Girl Scouting to approximately 15,000 girls, ages 5 to 17, in 23 parishes in southeast Louisiana.
Volunteers are the strength of Girl Scouting, and our volunteers are the greatest support team for girls, bringing their talents, energy, and dedication to Girl Scouting. Women and men interested in volunteering in a variety of capacities are encouraged to contact us today.
Among its properties are three camps: Camp Marydale in St. Francisville, Camp Whispering Pines in Independence, and Camp Covington in Covington with resident camping conducted at both Camp Whispering Pines and Camp Marydale and accredited by the American Camp Association.
Since its founding in 1912, Girl Scouts has offered remarkable opportunities for girls to develop positive values and to contribute to society as leaders, thinkers, and responsible citizens. Today, Girl Scouts remains a highly regarded, contemporary organization and a steadfast advocate for girls. All girls are encouraged to become Girl Scouts, regardless of race, color, ethnicity, religion, creed, national origin, socioeconomic status or ability.
The Girl Scout Leadership Experience is designed to guide girls along a life-long path to...
—lead with courage when they speak out on issues they care about and take active roles in their communities
—lead with confidence when they make the most of their strengths and feel empowered to make a difference in their lives and beyond
—lead with character when they act with integrity and compassion, making decisions that promote the well-being of themselves and others
...as they continue to make the world a better place.
