mr_bingle.jpgThe second Saturday of December gives East Jefferson General Hospital the chance to host an event that is especially popular with families. After running or walking a beautiful 2-mile course through City Park, participants get to see the Celebration in the Oaks Light Display before the gates are open to the general public. The day is filled with cocoa, visits with Santa and much more. Many of those running and walking this event do so with strollers or children right by their side.

This year's event is Sunday, December 13, 2009 @ 4:00 PM. Entry fees are $20.00 in November and $25.00 in December with a No T-shirt option on Race Day only.

Held the first Saturday in November, this race has multiple audiences. Serious runners use this as a qualifier to earn a prime starting position in the Crescent City Classic. A great many of those participating are area students. Ranging from the 6th grade through college, young runners from throughout the region come for the camaraderie and competition. With age specific prizes for everyone starting at age twelve, and cash grants for those schools with the greatest number of participants, this is always a spirited event and a great introduction to running events for young runners.

This year, the 4 Mile "Smoothie King" Crescent Connection Road Race will be held on Labor Day weekend. The race starts on New Orlean's "West Bank" and crosses the Mississippi River via the Crescent City Connection Bridge. At its midpoint, participant rise to a height of more than 300 feet over the river, giving participants a breathtaking view of the city’s skyline at sunset. Ending along the river at the Port of New Orleans Administration Building, the Connection or “Bridge Run” as locals call it, is a favorite among both serious runners and young professionals. Always followed by a great party and concert, the Connection is always a fun way to close out the summer.
