tour_jeffersonWhere can you ride a bike through a national park, get a boat ride across the Intracoastal Waterway and have lunch where the pirates used to roam, and then celebrate the experience with food, music, and good company in a scenic state park?

The Jefferson Chamber’s Tour de Jefferson on November 8th, 2009 provides a real opportunity for residents to enjoy the unique culture and scenery of Southeast Louisiana in a healthy and family oriented outing.

The Third Annual Tour de Jefferson is sponsored by EZ Parker /New South Parking. Last year, over 400 riders toured through 40 scenic miles of west Jefferson from Bayou Segnette to Lafitte and back. Even more riders are expected this year. The event is scheduled for Sunday, November 8 at Bayou Segnette State Park, 7777 Westbank Expressway in Westwego. Check-in is from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. with the ride starting at 8:45 a.m.

Riders can sign up for one of two categories, one for the Leisure Rider that runs 7.5 miles or the one for the Seasoned Ride at 45.5 miles. All riders must finish by 3:15 p.m. Helmets are required for all riders.

tour_jefferson2Advance Registration costs are $25 for an adult and $8 for a child and includes a t-shirt. A group of ten or more that completes advance registration together enjoys a 20% discount. Day of the event cost is $35 per adult and $12 per child.

Don’t want to ride, but would still like to participate in some way? Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks. Including people to hang signs along the route, put up tents at the start and finish lines, hand out water and food, staff rest stops, and take tickets. High school students who need community service hours are especially encouraged to volunteer.
