A Round with Ryan
Bff Gay Ben has been known to say there is a little fairy in all of us, this coming from a man that paints his toenails seasonally, sprinkles glitter into his full beard and wears a set of old broken wings for his birthday every year. I myself am not so convinced that there is a fairy in all of us. For instance, there is no fairy in me. I have seen myself in tights and wings and there is no way a fairy lives anywhere near that train wreck. In addition, I have been very open about my dislike of birds and feathers, so now you may add wings. Things with wings creep this fairy out!
If you are worried about parking this weekend at the Gretna Heritage Festival, do not be. Just hop on the ferry at its new docking point at Canal Street and "jump the ditch" as the locals say. In just under twenty minutes, you will be at the front door of all the fun and festivities the festival has to offer. However, let us not jump ahead, pay attention to this ride. The Gretna Ferry with its temperature-controlled compartment is a sure-fire fun way to travel on festival days, or just any day. Commuting locals from the heart of downtown to the restaurants of Gretna in mere minutes, you get to cross the largest river in the country and one of the busiest waterways in the world. Locals can enjoy dinner, breakfast or even lunch during the week with the recent change in the ferry docking at Canal Street.
You like your car? The ferry will transport your vehicle as well as you, while offering an impressive and unique view of the Crescent City Connection overhead.
Traveling the most impressive river in the country to one of the coolest festivals in the state sounds like a fairytale weekend to me. This may not be the kind of ferry to put a smile on Bff Gay Ben's face, but we can't make everybody happy now can we?
That is why The Gretna Ferry is my number 4 RyRy Hot Pick for the Gretna Heritage festival.
